7th Grade

SCIENCE

The Grade 7 science units are designed to engage students in a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to learning. As students do the work of real scientists, they ask questions, design investigations and draw conclusions to understand scientific content and develop scientific literacy skills. Students will study topics in life science and earth and space science. Additionally, students will apply the processes of science as they investigate these topics.

The two major units of study for the grade 7 science curriculum are:

Earth in Space
This unit clarifies prior knowledge about the solar system and Earth as a planet by providing students with the opportunity to perform a series of engaging, hands-on activities. Earth in Space is divided into three parts: Sun-Earth-Moon System, Solar System, and Earth's History as a Planet.

Organisms -From Micro to Macro
Students have a natural curiosity about living things and how they function. Organisms -From Micro to Macro taps this curiosity by first helping students clarify what they already know about organisms and then perform a series of engaging, thought-provoking, hands-on activities that will enable them to extend their knowledge. Students will work with a minimum of 16 living organisms during this module.
