8th Grade

SOCIAL STUDIES

The 8th grade Social Studies program is highly interactive and student-led with a great deal of coaching by the teachers. When students walk into their Social Studies classroom, they will be introduced to an exciting program called History Alive. This study of United States history, focused on "Coming to America to the beginning of the Civil War", will engage students through tapping into their multiple intelligences, structuring cooperative interactions to build their social studies skills, and building upon their prior knowledge to aide in the discovery of new social studies concepts and ideas.

The units of study for the grade 8 program include:

  • Native American Life and European Exploration (1492-1607)

  • English Colonial Period in The Americas (1607-1763)

  • American Revolution and Its World Impact (1763-1800)

  • The U.S. Constitution and The New Nation (1783-1815)

  • Regional Development of the United States (1800-1850)

  • Events leading to the Civil War (1850-1860)
